A Note from WNSL President

FLAG FOOTBALL

On Friday afternoon I was informed (blindsided) by Metro Parks on two fronts.

First. We have to limit the number of flag football fields to 4 (from 7) in the area where the football games are played.  With the number of fields decreasing like that, in order to create a schedule that gives all teams a game on Saturdays (while it is light until 7pm) you will see early start times at 8am and playing until 7pm on the 4 fields in the Flag Football Area. You will also see a 5th Flag Football Field on the baseball Field 1 which is the field closest to Old Hickory Blvd and Vaughn Road. That field will also go from 8am to 7pm. (One side note is that I reserved 7 football fields months ago and paid for 7 fields but Metro Parks did not realize this until Friday afternoon and is adamant about the maximum number of football fields in one area to 4 maximum). Their reasoning for this is for “social distancing.”  In a few weeks when it gets darker sooner we will not be able to get everyone a Saturday game. To offset that we will play flag football games on some Sunday afternoons. There will be some football games added for this Sunday the 30th and that part of the schedule will be out tomorrow. We will take the following Saturday/Sunday off for Labor Day weekend. Going forward, with only 5 football fields instead of 7 we will play some Sundays to make sure all teams get their allotment of games. Our goal is to get all teams their allotment of games and we need to play on Sundays to accomplish this. Weather has to be factored in so the earlier we get games in the better off we will be.

Second. Metro Parks told me we need to limit the number of people (players, coaches, officials and fans) on a field to 25. I told them we would do the best we can. If we were to limit the field to 25 people then there would be no spectators on the fields at all and I know this is totally unacceptable and unachievable.  So, what I am asking for is for one spectator/player for the first few weeks of games to help comply with their mandate. This one spectator/player will exceed their 25/field limits but I understand that one parent must be able to attend their child’s game.  Please help me with this mandate and have only one spectator/player attend the first few games.

Again, these mandates were sprung on me Friday and all I can say is let’s try to comply the best we can.

Social Distancing is a big issue and please help with this.

Masks are not mandatory but are suggested.

Thanks for understanding these policies and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me.

The Fall Flag Football season will be a good one and let’s allow the players enjoy the football games.

Thanks for listening and thanks for playing.

BASEBALL

I was informed (blindsided) on Friday by Metro Parks that we must limit the number of folks on all fields to 25 people.  I told them we would do our best we can. I know that if we limit the field to 25 People (players, coaches, umpires and fans) then there would be no spectators on the fields at all and that is total unacceptable and unachievable. So, what I am asking for is for one spectator/player for the first few weeks of games to help comply with their mandate. This one spectator/player will exceed their 25 people/field limits but I understand that one parent must be able to attend their child’s game.  Please help me with this mandate and have only one spectator/player attend the first few games.

Thanks for listening and thanks for playing.

I AM HOPING THAT THESE RESTRICTIONS WILL BE LIFTED SOON WHEN THE MAYOR MOVES NASHVILLE TO PHASE 3. ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
