Music City Flag Bowl Champs Make WNSL History

West Nashville Sports League wrapped up the Fall Flag Football season this past weekend with the championship games of the Music City Flag Bowl. Overall we named 17 division Champs who will receive tickets to the Transperfect Music City Bowl Game in December at Nissan Stadium.

One team managed to stand out, the 5/6A Division I Champs, the Heartbreakers. This all-girl flag football team has played with WNSL for the last 4 years, always making a competitive splash regardless of their competition. This year, the girls managed to hold a 6-2-1 record and won the Championship game 25-13 becoming the first all-girls flag football team to win their division in the Music City Flag Bowl!

After the game, we found some time to catch up with their coach, Scott McRae, “This group of girls truly enjoys the challenge of competing in a mainly all-boys league.  In fact, when WNSL announced the formation of an all-girls league earlier this year, the girls were adamant they wanted to continue to compete in the “boys” league.  They are a true team and enjoy competing, learning the game, and having fun together.  Their grit and determination is remarkable.  They also happen to be extremely talented athletes and will do great things in the future.  It’s been an honor for me and the other coaches to help them develop and experience their success.  I would also like to thank WNSL for their support over the past several seasons.”

Scott Tygard, WNSL President had this to say about the season, “It was another great season for WNSL Flag Football and broke records for the size - over 1,100 participants. The league wouldn’t be possible without the use of the fields at Edwin Warner Park by Metro Parks. We thank them for their continued partnership with the WNSL and look forward to many more years to come.”

That is what it’s all about. That is why WNSL continues to pave the path for new sports, additional age groups, etc, our hope is to reach as many children’s lives in Middle Tennessee as possible and leave them with an impact of grit and a lifetime of memories.
